Our Lessons

The Sandlot Program

At The Sandlot, we place great emphasis on providing young children with a strong and solid foundation that will serve as a springboard for their future academic success. Through extensive research, we have discovered that early childhood education plays a critical role in shaping a child’s cognitive, social, and emotional development. That’s why we are committed to delivering a well-crafted, play-based learning program that caters to children aged 16 months to 5 years old. Our innovative approach to early learning is designed to spark curiosity, stimulate creativity, and foster a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Ages 4 - 5

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program for children aged 4 to 5 years who have not yet enrolled in school. Our Pre-Kinder program is designed to help children develop early reading and writing skills, as well as key self-help skills that will prepare them for formal schooling.

At The Sandlot, we focus on developing children’s ability to make good decisions, even when their peers may not. We encourage them to be great members of their community and practice conflict resolution with minimal verbal direction from staff. Our aim is to help children become Superfriends who are able to navigate complex social situations with confidence and grace.

In addition to these important social and emotional skills, children in this age group will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles and become more patient while working with younger children. They will also learn self-sufficiency skills such as toileting, hand washing, dressing, table manners, and sitting for longer periods of time.

To ensure that each child gets the attention and support they need, we assign them specific responsibilities such as setting the table, helping younger children with self-help tasks, or assisting staff with small duties. This helps children build a sense of ownership and responsibility and prepares them for the expectations of formal schooling. As the children work on Pre-Kinder ready skills, they will also learn to follow complex directions, raise their hand until called on, and wait for instructions before starting on projects. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment where each child has the opportunity to be a leader and develop the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

Ages 3.5 - 4

At The Sandlot, we provide a nurturing environment for preschoolers aged 3.5 to 4 years where they can continue to explore their self-expression through various activities such as music and movement, arts and crafts, circle time, games, dramatic play, outdoor play, blocks, science, and supervised play areas. We believe that every child is unique, and we strive to provide enriching experiences that cater to their individual needs and interests.

Our carefully planned activities are designed to support their cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development. We encourage self-expression and creativity through music and movement, where children can explore different rhythms and movements and learn to express themselves through dance. Our arts and crafts activities allow children to experiment with different textures and colors and develop their fine motor skills. During circle time, children can learn to communicate effectively, listen to others, and develop their language skills.

We understand that outdoor play is crucial for children’s development, and we have designed our outdoor play areas to provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can run, jump, climb, and explore. We also have a dedicated science area where children can learn about the world around them, conduct experiments, and develop their critical thinking skills.

At this age, children are becoming more independent and are always on the move. We help them develop their manipulative and coordination skills by providing them with plenty of fun activities like puzzles, sticking stickers, cutting, free expression, poetry, and songs. We believe that play is crucial in helping children develop self-care skills, including dressing themselves, cleaning up after themselves, and taking care of their belongings. By encouraging children to become more independent, we set them up for success when they move on to formal schooling.

16 months to 2 years

For children aged 16 months to 2 years, we provide a range of activities that encourage self-expression through imagination, sound, and experimentation with color, texture, and shape. Our focus is on helping toddlers understand their emotions and develop their relationships with other children through empathy and concern. At this age, toddlers experience rapid physical development, language acquisition, and exploration of social relationships and imaginative play.

In addition to group circle time with their peers, toddlers have dedicated time for stories, rhymes, and songs with their own age group or an older child as their leader. They also have separate play time with age-appropriate toys that enhance tactile and visual stimulation.

Our playroom is designed to encourage physical skills such as sitting, standing, and walking, with an environment of bright colors and appropriate toys to provide optimum stimulation for growth. As the child matures, the learning materials grow more complex. Music is an important element of the curriculum for every toddler, youngest to oldest, ensuring a great group experience for all.

We also incorporate areas such as art, large motor skills, and dramatic play to provide a day filled with exploration, visual and tactile stimulation for your toddler.

Our Priorities

At our preschool, we prioritize the safety and well-being of your child above everything else. We have designed our classrooms with your child’s comfort and safety in mind. Our staff is highly trained and experienced to ensure that your child can explore, learn, and have fun with confidence.

We understand that each child is unique, with their own strengths and interests. Therefore, we have low student-to-teacher ratios to ensure that each child receives personalized attention, allowing them to excel academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. We have various activities catering to different learning styles, ensuring that each child can explore and develop at their own pace.

We also inform you about your child’s daily activities, progress, and special events through open communication using the award-winning platform Brightwheel. Throughout the year, we plan regular parent-teacher conferences that provide opportunities for more in-depth discussions about your child’s development.
